The Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior, in Faribault, is the first Cathedral built in the Episcopal Church in America. The sanctuary seats approximately 350.

Bishop Whipple laid the cornerstone of the Cathedral on July 16, 1862. James Renwich, architect of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, is credited with the design. It took seven years to complete and was consecrated on June 24, 1869. The bell tower was designed by Ralph Adams Cram, architect of St. John the Divine in New York City and was added in 1901.
